Default waterfowl wetland management help needed

The swamp I have hunted for ducks will no longer be open due to someone building a house within 30 yds of it. I walked deeper into the swamp and found an water opening outside the safety zone which is approx. 20 yds by 15 yds wide. I want to open up this area (for the ducks and geese to land) which is filled with emergent type plants and grasses. I priced some of the liquid weed killers for aquatic plants but would like help in directing me to a more economical solution if there is one. Is there a good but inexpensive weed killer alternative that will be effective on aquatic plants yet not (longterm) polluting to the ecosystem?
Thanks for any help given.
