Default Louisiana Deer Management

I read articles on deer hunting that say "hunt food sources", "hunt water sources". These writers oviously do not hunt in Louisiana!
The entire state is a food and water source. How do we attract and hold deer?

First welcome to the board. Hunting a water source in the southeast is probably a hit or miss thing to do. Usually too much available. Usually at different times of the hunting season there are many food sources, but usually there are some that are more preferential. Early in the season white oaks are good, then as they disappear food plots, honeysuckle, and briars get better. Locate and hold does with a good food plot or an agriculture field that has plenty of food left in it till the rut is probably the best bet.

Ya gotta have a better mouse trap... Do some plots and start some licks... Hunt outside the visible ring of the source, thats where the big boys are 45 minutes to an hour before dark and just after sunrise. Don't hunt the source itself. You want the animals to eat and drink comfortably so they will continue using the nutrition available.
