In N.Y. it takes from october till at least may or june. It takes mine forever. Sometimes it is good to tie the against the base of a tree, works as good and i never had a problem.

Don't dogs and animals chew on the antlers if it is tied up on top of the ground?

I tried to to do it an easy way as well.

I can tell you crows, buzzards or nothing will touch it if it's up in a tree. A month of that and it LOOKED like the day I laid it on the limb.

In the creek for over two months now and only the fur is gone.

I skin all the hide off the head first, then remove the tongue, eyes and brain. Next its ready boil, i dont put in the ground, ive heard you can put it in the ground at an ant pile to get rid of all the meat and what not, but i just boil it and scrape it does a fine job. Then bleach till white. I found that bleach made the skull pretty brittle tho, there is some other carbonate ( or something) mixture that bleaches but ive never experimented with it.

We did a european mount on a 14 pointer my dad got a few years ago. we buried i think until about june..from november to june. and it came up, all we had to do was spray it off and bleach it. For my 9 pointer i shot this year, we just got the hide off the skull, boiled it fora while, and then sprayed it with a pressure washer. bleached the skull and sprayed it with matte clear coat. i have to get a picture of it up, it looks great. I woudlnt levae the skull above ground, the mice will get it. bury it until late next summer probably.

I can do a euro mount in about 6-8 hrs. Heres a link on how. the only difference is I pressure wash the head clean, it comes out spotless and removes all the nasal and brain matter effortlessly.

I just send mine to MOA custom skulls, here in Ohio. Steve uses Dermestid beetles. Skulls look fantastic.
