Coastie is right. Feeding wildlife can do far more harm than good. Check with your local Game and Fish people,

Of course! They eat it all summer long before it is baled! Alphalfa I believe is the best hay for retaining weight and antler growth, but I am not positive on that.

in saskachewan they use alfalfa and barley.

Yep, the deer that are alive today are eating alfalfa hay just like the ones were when this thread died 10 1/2 years ago!

The thread is obviously not dead as you, and I commented on it Tp-06? Bacteria in deer's stomachs sometimes can't handle hay in deep winter, in the far north, it can plug them up. Thanks for bringing up this interesting thread ggw44, winter is coming.
