Default Is this Glutton?

My nephew told this to me last night.

In 2003 north of him 27 hunters harvested 77 deer. Brown its down mentality. I hope they were able to distribute the deer to friends and family.

This year those same 27 only got 13. Corn still in the feilds.

In our club we have about 18 members. It is common to kill 100 + deer each year and we need to shoot a lot more. The over population in our is a problem. The meat is either utilized by members or processed and given away.

that's less than 3 deer per person, which in and of itself ain't a big deal. What is a big deal is how big an area these deer were taken from. From the looks of this seasons harvest, it was a smaller area and they decimated thier herd last year. Its all about balance.

All that depends on what the resident deer population is like. How many of those were does vs. bucks? Are they in a management program? That's not an unreasonable number of deer to shoot in most places.

I have six tags this year but I could have gotten up to 20. There are to many deer where I hunt too.

I like to hunt---not kill.

Here in Jersey one can shoot a doe a day and up to 6 bucks during all the seasons. Could I shoot 20 does and 6 bucks--yeah but I don't because I can not use all of that meat; I can not donate that meat and I do not see the need to kill that many deer just for the sake of doing it.

Maybe you call it maturity or common sense but I never went through a "killing stage" like a lot of guy do.

Kill as many deer as you can eat the meat from. If you enjoy hunting and being in the stand then go for it and get as many as they let you, as long as the meat goes to good use.
