Pattern several different types of slugs using a solid rest. Use the brand the pattern the best. When you shoot try to use a tree or a stick to steady your shot. With open sights I can shoot good at about 80 yards.

If you're shooting a smoothbore, use an open or rifled choke and try the Brenneke slugs. Max distance is probably going to be around 100 yds.

Ditto on what bigbuck00 said. Stay away from sabots in a smoothbore. go with regular rifled slugs. I have a smoothbore Rem 870 express and shoot clover leaf groups at 50 yards using Winchester slugs. something like 5 bucks for a box of 15. I don't expect to shoot further than that where I hunt.
