Default Are rubs good to hunt during the rut.

I've been able to find a bunch of rubs all over trees on one of my properties. Do bucks still visit these during the rut and late in the season?

thanks,

Yes espesaly the rubs with a scrape under the rub.

If you find a rub with a scrape under it set up within shooting range.

and go every day for a week if posible.

The buck will check it for does.

Does pee in the scrape to let the buck know shes ready.

So the Buck will check it regular.

Good Luck

No. Rubs in general are not effective during the rut. Rubs inconjuction with heavily scraped areas can be effective in the pre-rut period. A rub line may also give an indication of an area that a buck frequents. However, during the rut you should focus on areas were you have seen good doe activity. Remember, during the rut if you find the does, you find the bucks.

I agree withy muley, while I am a rub man it is not to hunt over but purely an indicator to the habits, travels and how it pertains to that area. When the rut is on the does are the key, for does it is bed and food, so the rubs/scrapes are just one more piece of the puzzle of finding the spot within the spot.

I agree with muley and sheeter. Rubs are territorital markings showing you a buck uses that area, they don't mean he will ever pass that particular tree again though and most scrapes are scent checked from downwind by the buck so if you hunt a scrape do so from the downwind side of it and off to the side.

During the rut bucks are chasing not checking rubs. They tend not to visit when they have the company of a doe!

I dont hunt rubs or scrapes, those are just tale sighns that bucks are in the area. Set up in some cover down of the scrapes, or use funnels. I have dozens of rubs and i have seen bucks rub right under my stand and never return. I have found rubs with scrapes in front of them and they have never been used again either. Bucks are very unpredictable, just get a good set up with a good dominate wind in your favor and hope for the best. You cant kill one sitting on the couch!

HEre is a buck bedded down right by a cedar tree with a rub on it. Can you see the deer?
