In my opinion the wind is only good for one thing......Flying a kite. I'm blessed with a flexible job, which allows alot of free time to get in the woods. In my experience most critters like the wind just as much as I do. In my area deer most definitly do not move much on a windy day, and I've never had much luck unless its the rut. With wind creating movement in the leaves and trees, I think it spooks animals. They can't see well, and they can't hear all that well either. Take for example.....when grouse hunting on a windy day most of the birds you'll see that day will be in trees. I feel deer and most any prey animal will react in a similar way.
Don't get me wrong, I've seen plenty of deer on a windy day, but as far as hunting...... I'd rather not be in the woods. Especially on stand at a favorite spot. Swirling winds spook deer. And they usually don't forget! Just my 2 pennies worth. Bill

Windy days are good for stalking. I don't believe deer move around much on those days.

i actually use windy days to my advantage. it gives me the opportunity to stalk slowly and i usually look for wind breaks such as fallen timber or deep valleys between ridges....not too sure how u would use the wind if youre hunting flat land but i dont get a chance to hunt that often and i kinda use every situation as a learning tool and try to make the best of it.
I will tell you this though Ive seen alot of deer during the wind and yes they are spooky but most of the time ive been succesful. We're not talking tropical storm winds here now!!!! For all you critics out there...LOL

Wicked wind ,hate it. In bow if it is to windy I dont like the chance the wind will effect the arrow. In gun if I go I find a protected corner and hide

I live in North West Texas, If you waited for a day when it was not windy, id would be waiting a life time. I have found some of my most successful hunts have been while there was a wind, not heavy wind but windy. The key is to hunt funnels and draws. The deer will hold up and feed in areas were they can find a wind block.

I've usually have had good luck in windy conditions. Don't get me wrong its not always like that, but closer to rut or during the rut it's really not going to make much difference in your hunt. Just my two pennies though, hope this helps.

If the wind is steady in strength and direction then you can use it to your advantage and I've come upon moose, bear, and deer under these conditions. I haven't had as much luck when its blustery and all over the place in terms of direction.

I dont mind the wind and niether do the deer around here.
i snuck out of work early today(12:30) to check and move the cameras and get some feed out.
2 of the 3 stands had deer at them.It was blowing 20-25 and the rain was coming sideways.
I'v been in the stand at 35-40 with up to 11-12 deer on the pile. The only thing i was thinking about was...
"ok,if this tree breaks ,I think I can jump to that one
