Default 12ga or 20ga

I am looking at getting a new deer gun this year. I have shot 12ga in the past and have great luck with it. Everyone that I have been talking to says to get the 20ga. This gun would be used for deer only and fully rifled. The stories I get are that 20ga can out perform 12ga. What are your opinions on this? Thanks

I have a H&R Ultra Slug Hunter 20 gauge with a scope on it and at 30 yards i shot 3 times and only made 1 hole. i'd say thats pretty good, then i got back to about 100 yards or so and shot twice more, my farthest shot from the bullseye was 3 inches. I am very happy with it! I wouldnt be afraid to make a 130-150 yard shot with it at all!

Oh, and I shoot 2-3/4 inch winchester sabots.

I shoot a 12 but the new Federal Barnes Expander (1900 fps) in the 20 gauge looks really good. Trajectory and energy are both excellent to 200 yds. I like the H&R idea, that would be a shooter.

A gun for deer only, fully rifled. I'll confess I have not looked at all of the 20 ga loadings, but I think that the fastest 12 ga loading is still as good as if not better than the fastest 20 ga loading of equal weight.

Of course you can kill deer with a 20. But a 12 brings more to the party than a 20.

The 20 ga is plenty for deer. I have killed one with a 20. But no i hunt with a 12 ga. I would get a Remington 870 in 12 ga.

I have killed alot of deer with a 20 gauge mossberg. I have never had a deer go more than 50 yards after a good hit. That being said, I now use a 12. Nothing wrong with the 20, though.
