Default Deer range question

Tonight i saw a nice sized buck crossing a field about 1/2 mile from my stand location. The area where i saw him i can not hunt. My question is how much of an area does an average buck cover and from this distance during this time would i be able to lure him in using deer estrous. The activity this weekend should be great because the temperatures are supposed to be in the upper 30s and many people have noticed deer starting to rut. So do you think i could bring him in from this kind of distance. Thanks for any input.

I have read and heard that a bucks home range is about a squre mile and he may leave that and go further to mate/rut with does during the rut. I bagged a 7 pt by making a mock scape with domiant buck urine. Tinks brand. the big buck may come in to see who is after his does. try some hot doe also. see the pic. of the 7pt on this forum I just posted.
good luck!

One more thing i think i should add is that the area i am hunting is quickly turning into land for houses so my land is one of a few places in that area that are still left natural. i dont know if this affects it or not. also i will be hunting on about a 2.5 acrce food plot of wheats, oats, rye, and clover

Try some grunts, especially doe bleats and greeting grunts. If your brave, you can try to throw in some tending grunts also...but that may spook smaller bucks.

Depends on the food in your area, South Texas its 1-5 sq miles. Thicker woods it will be less.

He's right in your backyard!! Hunt him hard. During the rut that deer could travel 5 miles looking for tail. Try a little rattling.
