Ho there! YES!! I'm PUMPED! Can't wait neither...

I was just asking questions about the earth scent cover in the other post. Got all my hunting gear ready. All I have to do is get alot of sleep the night before, and that's tommorow! (which I doubt I will, too much excitement!) [:@]

I'll be hunting in Good Thunder area. Got a report from a friend of mine who lives there, about 200 yards from my hunting spot, his father spotted a 24 pointer there while he was plowing the cornfield. He was watching the monster for 5 min, and ingnored the tractor while plowing almost 50 yards away! And he continued on plowing, and the buck walked away. When I heard about this a couple of days ago, I nearly fell of my chair. I've never heard a buck around here that can be that BIG!?

Where are you hunting at this year?

Hey guys, I've been anticipating this weekend for a long time. I'm heading up tomorrow morning to the Staples/Motley area to set up camp and explore a little more. Can't wait. Good luck.

Yes I am but I hate slug guns. We used to hunt north of Grand Rapids with rifle but now back at the farm by Alex. Thinking of switching to a .410.

i have to use the .410 because my dad and brother are both using the 20 gauge.. will a .410 kill any thing big? or would u need to have like a perfect shot?

Glad to see people from the north country on this board. I couldn't sleep last night because of this weekend, I can't imagine what tonight will bring....lol. We hunt rifle northwest of wadena. Sighted in the trusty .308 last weekend, 2" grouping at 100 yds. Tick Tock

MNPheasantHunter -

.410 will get you a buck. I shot my first buck with a .410....Gotta aim it good and don't miss. I had a single shot .410 it was my mother's gun..now I use 870 magnum express!

MN Deerman -

I sighted my 870 2 weeks ago 100 yards 1-2 inch groups too! couldn't have done it without my rifled barrel and sights.

I CAN'T WAAAAIIIIITTT!!

I keep thinking of that 24 pointer I told you about...how it'd be great if that buck walked right into my trap. How great it'd look on the wall!

Well all I can tell you is that if you see a 24 point in minnesota (or anywhere else for that matter), take him!!! lol, yeah that would be awesome. Thinking about that big boy isn't going to help the waiting any is it?? lol

MN Deerman -

Sorry it took so long to answer..I'd been outside doing chores aound my house after I got home.

See, about the 24 pointer buck..I've never seen him but my very good friend of mine told me just a couple days ago about this monster. I hunt with this friend of mine for the past 7 years at his place in Good Thunder, at his father's place which is about only a 1/4 mile away, this father was plowing the field and saw this HUGE buck standing at the edge between the field and woods..he kept on plowing getting closer and stopped about 50 yards away from the buck, watching him for 5 minutes and was counting the points one one side of the antlers and then continued on to the other side of the rack when the buck walked off into the woods. He called my friend and told him, and that's when my friend told me the next day about it.

The kicker is that my hunting spot is about 150 yards from where monster buck stood!

So I'm dreamin' big time!! Probably will freeze with my lower mouth to the ground if I see him.[:-] I've never heard of a 24 pointer around here in MN! That's unheard of! Biggest one I've ever seen is a 14 pointer about 7 years ago, a friend of mine shot..was HUGE! But a 24 pointer? Oh boy...oh boy, this I gotta see...
