Yep, he's a dandy and something sure took a chunk out of that right ear. I've seen them cut up, but I cant remember seeing one with a chunk out like that. He must have really locked up with another good buck in the area and had that happen in a pretty good fight.

Or he got caught in one of those stupid wire antler catchers people who collect drops put out in areas where they know there are big buck that survived the season to speed the process and try to get them both at the same place.

He's had that chunk missing from his ear since he was 2.5 years old. We've gotten pics of him for three years now. I haven't seen anyone using one of those contraptions around there. I don't think the work as advertised anyway. If the antler is not ready to fall off that minute, I don't think it's coming off at all.

Wide enough that I'd take him, that's for certain.

I should have specified. He is not a coues deer or a Florida Key deer. He's a regular whitetail.

Here in SoCal the rule is +/- 17 " to the outside of his ears.

It's a picture - hard to tell, exactly....................

How about this - he's a "shooter" !!!

But not wide enough to fit all the spam smart phone posts that littered this board overnight.
