Since I have only been here for a little bit, year or two. Is there a place I could go to see what the contest is all about, how it runs, and the purpose behind it? It sounds interesting and I seen the Turkey one but being that it was team based and I dont get to pick when I can go hunting, this was a pretty good deterrent for me.

I really don't care at all for contests based on killing game. I never have. I have seen too many shenigans involved with anything from big buck contests, turkey beard contests to coyote shooting contests. I believe hunting contests bring out the worst in people My contest is between me and what ever I am hunting.

Go to the The Archives Forum, where all the old Gun Deer contests go.
You can see them there.

If interest doesn't improve,
There may not be a Gun Deer Hunting Contest for 2015 - 2016 Season.

I've always enjoyed the contest. I enjoy seeing what everyone gets and just enjoy the competition. But, if it's like it was last year, then I don't really see the point. We need more people to sign up, and more active participants. I hope we get enough interest.

Boca, the same thing can be accomplished simply by having 2015/16 rifle deer photo thread without having a contest. Archery deer photo thread, muzzle loader photo thread etc. All will generate conversation and pictures. Everyone likes to see pictures of deer from successful hunters, not everyone likes to be involved in hunting contests.

May not be your cup of tea, but allow others to enjoy theirs if they have the numbers.

All I see is a member giving a great and very simple alternative to see the pictures of deer members take and by doing that it would also eliminate all the work a person has to do to run the contest. It appears after a week that it's about a 50/50 split with a very low number of respondents. Maybe it's just too early in the year for people to think about it and give an answer, although if they are on the site regularly they should easily see the sticky and have the courtesy to answer IMHO. It sure isn't happening though and there have been about 150 views of the question!
