Just think due to the laws in a state that fellows old 4 point is spreading his genes every fall. So there will be another crop of bucks that may not ever make it to 8 point status.
There are things you can do to help as long as the genetics are there.
Place mineral licks out do more than one or two keep them year round and do things to your property to improve the habitat for deer. A mature woods is great for a hunter to see a long distance but hard for deer to find year round browse in. Harvest the mature trees and let the under growth spring up providing forage year round along with cover. You can do a small section her and another over there next year. keep the rotation going till you have to start over.

In the end a Spike buck taste ever bit as good as a 8 point and maybe in some cases a whole bunch better as young meat is better than old tough meat.

I think you can go somewhere in the middle. Don't expect high fence hunting show bucks running everywhere but why not let little bucks grow and see what happens?
