7.62x54R with softpoints?

I have a .30-30 and a recently purchased mosin nagant rifle to chose from. I have taken deer with my .30-30 but would like to take another rifle out there to mix things up with. I have gone to the range a few times to check the accuracy of the gun and it is a nail driver! I would NEVER use FMJ's to hunt deer with but can get my hands on some softpoints and am wondering if anybody has any experience hunting with this rifle/ammo. Any thoughts?

You seem to have the right type of ammo in mind so I see no problem using that Mosin at all. Pretty cool if you ask me. I know Winchester makes a 180(?) for those.

ballisticly its close to a 30/06 so it'll make a fine deer rifle.

Watch it though it may not shoot the commercial soft points as well as it shoots the FMJ mil surp. The rifles are really hit and miss on accuracy.

Ya, thats what I use when I carry my Nagant. But, make sure you get some range time using them. Because My gun shoots them a lil different than the other surplus stuff I buy.

Hope you get better accuracy than I do. I have one and on a good day I might be able to shoot myself in the foot with it!!!!!!!!
