Default Deer Feeder Trailer

I have an old 4x8 enclosed trailer. I want to turn it into a gravity feeder. It has a swing open door on the back. I'm thinking of putting a trough either on both sides or the back. I need some kind of hole in the top to fill it at the grain company. Anyone have any useful ideas? 4x8x5 how much weight in lbs would that be filled to the top? I dont wanna destroy it by overloading the trailer.

Default Trailer Feeder

Ok, Answered one of my own questions

4x8x5=160cu/ft

1bushell =1.25cu/ft

160/1.25= 128 bushells

1bushell= 56lbs

128x56= 7168lbs

Thats 3.5+ tons. I dont think the trailer will handle that. Let alone trying to drag 3.5tons through the woods to my food plot. Do yall agree?

Whats a good functional weight limit?

Default Trailer

My guess would be since it is an enclosed trailer with car size wheels it would be 3,500 lb's.

A ton of corn is a lot of corn in one feeder. Remember if you have moisture in your corn, and it gets hot inside, that it will sour and mold. Then you have a big dang mess cleaning it out. Your trailer will need sloped sides so the corn doesn't hang up, see mold and moisture.

If i get the corn at the grain company. I think it will be pretty dry. What does a farmer use on a silo to keep it from rotting? Do they have some kind of venting system through the sides. I could put some vent holes in the bottom with fine wire and a vent in the top.
