Default For those of you dreading this post!

Not a whole lot happened this year, but I did manage to take 3 deer during our 2 week any sex season. I'll describe the hunts

1) was on the bank above the 4-lane highway on wed. before thanksgiving, at 2:00 PM an 8 pt walked accross an open valley below me, I knew from past experience the deer was 340 yards, dialed 2 clicks up, and held for a lungshot, he ran 40 yards. He was a 2.5 yo buck with a 16" spread

2) thanksgiving day, turned to the left and saw a deers sillouette up against a bare ridge, ranged her, (a doe0 at 725 yards, ran the numbers, did my dope and held for a center shoulder shot.
Just as I started tightening the trigger, the sun popped out and immediately mirage set in, the deer appeared to dance 3 mils up the crosshair from the heatwaves, the trigger broke and saw no sign of a hit. was starting to pack up, and a cloud covered the sun, the deer quit dancing and I decided to send another accubond since the target picture was so much clearer.
At the report the deer went down, regained its feet and made it 6 feet before expiring. Hit was center shoulder in, center shoulder out. they just don't get over that!

3) sat and my final day to hunt, saw a few does on top of the ridge straight aheadranged them at 523 yards, they were skylined so it was a no shot situation, until one fed down off the horizon. she was quartering away so I held to break the offside shoulder after giving the 7mm Allen 4.25 MOA of up and 1/2 MOA left wind.
When the big 7 bellowed the hit was plain to see, I saw the offside shoulder colapse, and the deer piled up 30 yards farther up hill.

So not much to talk about, however I am taking a newb to LR shooting out tomorrow to see if we can get him a shot at an 800 yard doe, He's an ex-marine and shoots as well as anyone.

Got 2 other long range hunts to newbs promised over christmas and I still have 2 tags so maybe I'll have another story for ya, hope the weather is better than it was last week so I can take some pics.

Good shooting all
RR

Good Job Ridge. Would have liked to read a nice 1000 yard bang flop. But always a joy to read your work.

Big, had a breakout of EHD on the farm where I can really stretch it out (where I made the 1350 shot last year) but I do have a trip planned where I can make 1K.

If my barrel holds out I will change loads after this season and the new bullets will make an HONEST TO GOODNESS 1 MILE!!
you'll be hearing things from me in the 2010 and 2011 seasons, the dude that hunts with shawn carlock took a whitetail at just over 1900 yards this fall, I can't let that go unchallenged!

Good Job RR. couple of chips shots for you this year huh? Tell ya what though, it's been a tough season. I had a very hard time finding food. I couldn't find the nuts anywhere in my part of the state
