Having a tough season so far... I am in the first year of my first official 'deer lease'. I have always hunted public landprior to this year. We have 365 acres close to Comanche, TX. We picked this place early in the year. One of the reasons we liked it so much was because of the abundance of acorn trees. Then in June...the rain started. It rained more this past summer in this part of Texas than any summer I can remember. Due to this we are LOADED down with acorns. I saw more deer this summer setting up my stands than I have bow season and early rifle season combined. I think they simply have so much to eat that they are not having to move much at all. It is the middle of November now so I can only hope the rut changes things. The problem is that I am not seeing anydeer right now so I can't determine what stage of the rut is going on. Pretty frustrating.Many hunters in this area are experiencing the same thing. I put a lot of effort and preparation into this hunting season so I hope it changes.
I'm in east tx and had the same thing happen. I also had a big herd of pigs come through 3rd week of october. We have never had pigs on the property. Opening weekend I didn't see one deer or track!
