Well scouted out a great area today, how ever I found a good size bear bedded 200 yards in from the parking area, I found him sleeping ina tree on the way out, at the least 300# or So, and I am guessing small, I was womndering why the deer sign ended at acertain point to the left of the parking gate, Deffinatly his core area there was trees marked every where, I am hopping for once there will be others hunting here hoping the bears goes north of us, I am planning on sitting a good mile and a half south of him, think there is a chance of an encounter, or will he run off ?
some say he'll run off aas soon as he hears a door and others say stay away from his core area, I guess thats gona put a damper on ground hunting, lol
Bears and deer live in pretty close proximity, though deer will intelligently steer clear of bears. I was hunting a few years ago, and had a few deer run across about 80 yards from me like bats out of h&ll. One minute later, a bear came out and ended up walking beneath my stand.
The bears wont bother you. We have plenty of them here no problems so far the just give you the creeps when you come up on one in the dark. As for the deer yes the scare them off but not out of the county the will still be around just not when the bear is. I have ran bear off from under oak trees eating acorns and within a 1/2 hour see deer feeding in the same area.
If you're really uncomfortable with the bears you have two options:
1. Don't hunt there, but this may mean you won't be hunting.
2. Carry a back up gun or a big enough gun to hunt with that if it did come down to a self defense situation you'd be able to defend yourself.
In reality, the chances of you having an interaction with a bear are probably slim to none. They'd probably be just as eager to avoid you and as you are to avoid them. Black bears are usually not the ones you hear are attacking people.
If a black bear ever does come after you, he wants to eat you. And having the smell of a deer or its gutpile on you wont help matters at all.Bears can see but not so well. Go loaded for bear is my advice. And carry a knife big enough to reach the vitals in case it comes down to that.

Last Saturday I was hunting an eveing stand and watching two does just feed along. All of a suddent they jerk their head up and take off and I'm gettin ready for a shot thinking to see a big buck only to see a big black blob rolling down the hill. Just my two cents, but i'm guessing deer intelligently stay away from bears.
