It depends a lot on the property and the level of pressure it gets. For hard hunted land grab a deer cart and go in farther than anyone else nice and early. Pattern where the deer will try to escape and be there first. Lightly hunted land gives you some breathing room, stick to food and water sources. The thicker the cover the more likely that deer will be in it, use a topo map or aerial photos to find the back doors.
