Whitetail Deer HuntingGain a better understanding of the World's most popular big game animal and the techniques that will help you become a better deer hunter.
First off, I'd like to say hello to everyone. I'm in Wisconsin, I'm 35 and I'm handicapped. Last year and this year I've been selected to participate in a handicapped hunt on private property, October 6th - October 14th. It will be rifle, and I'm curious as to what calls to use. I have the "Mad Buck Growl" and a rattle bag, and I'm hoping that this will be enough to call some deer in.
The time that you will be hunting is what we call the October lull here in norther WI. It can be slow. If you are looking to call I would suggest a soft grunt and at best just a tickle of the antlers. I just did it last weekend in WI and it seemed to work. Nothing agressive just soft. And don't do it often. I like to do that to cover up and noise that I may have made getting in the stand and then I may do it once more later in the hunt.

I'll definately pick up The Can, that will help during the regular hunting season. And I'll just try to give a soft grunt once in a while. Although I'm not in northern Wisconsin, I'm sure it wont be much different down here. I'm going to be hunting in Green Lake county. Saw plenty of deer last year, but they were to far away....and running alot haha. Even seen a young buck racing a train that runs through the property. Seen a couple really nice bucks last year too. One was about a 6-8 pointer, and one was a really big 10 pointer. I'll keep you posted on how it goes, and will try to post a pic of the deer if I get one.
