Default Velvet question

I see many deer this time of year when scouting. It always seems like the last deer left stillin the velvet are the small spikes or forkhorns. Why is this so?

Thanks

Default RE: Velvet question

As to an answer to your question, not sure perhaps it is because they were born late, hence their cycle is late ie: antlers started late. Interesting question though...
Here in WV I am still seeing 8-12 pts in velvet ( have not yet seen a buck without velvet) and bow season starts in about a month....small fawns with spots still on too ( some look to be only 1-2 mnths old) really small. I am observing these things more this year than in years past. Personally I find it disturbing. JMHO......
