Default Oat seed

I am knew on the lease and the landowner is asking for oat seed. He will plow the field, we will broadcast the seed then he will turn under. It is a small 3 acre enclosed field. He also mentioned that horse oat seed would work fine. He said not all would sprout but most would. Any feedback ?

Get the Buck Forage Oats. They are worth the few dollars per bag of extra cost. Don't cover the seed too deep, if you are using a disc straighted the blades out and let them just barely cover the seed.

Under the general hunting forums look down 9 forums from the deer hunting forum and you will see the wildlife management forum. Most of what is discussed there is feeding deer and food plots. The posters there have a lot of experience with different planting mixtures. Take a look. I was just trying to help you find the information you were looking for.

You don't want to plow it...you can disc it, no more than about an inch deep..Put 50 pounds of wheat per acre, 150 pounds of triple 19 fertilizer and 500 pounds of lime and disc lightly....This should have deer hitting it within 4-5 weeks with adequate moisture.
