Default Deer favorite foods

I have property with several apple trees, many of which have dropped their fruit. The area with the trees has a low fence around the perimeter and no gate - just an opening. There is no sign in the apple area.

I planted a food plot on the other side of the property using a commercial blend of grasses, clover and other seed. The plot is about knee high and shows little sign that it has been touched.

Adjoining the property is a planted corn field. Here you can find paths, knocked down corn stalks and sign.

In your experiences, what do deer prefer to eat?

You mean to tell me a deer's diet isn't corn only???
I could have saved thousands of dollars!!

Seriously, when I hunted on public land I found a persimmon tree that was almost uprooted by deer and hogs looking for dropping persimmons. But private land, you can't beat corn, or cornmixed withplums(my secret bait).

It depends upon the season...

Deer are foragers, basically goats with antler, the list of what they will not eat will be shorter than what they will eat....

They dang sure love white oak acorns, but can't eat them until they fall, same with beech nuts and apples....Honeysuckle is an over looked food by many deer hunters...On our farms, peanut vines get hammered during the summer as well as soybean plants....Cut corn is very good, but they seem to prefer soybeans that are still green over cut corn....

During bow season (September) we have a grove of persimmon trees that are a deer magnet, on another farm its grapes...

You need to keep up with the food that they are currently preferring....
