Default 20 gauge ammunition

hey i know a 20 gauge is weak, and i was wondering what you guys could reccomend for the best ammunition in terms of accuracy and power, money is not a issue in this case. it is a 20 gauge rifle barrel. thanks.

Both of my last two deer were taken with a 20 gage loaded with ordinary foster slugs, they both dropped dead just as fast as any other deer I've seen shot with 12 gage. Since you're shooting a slug barrel you'll have to try various brands and loads until you find what your individual gun likes and is most accurate with.

I am not sure where you got the impression that a 20 gauge is weak. You now have saboted ammo that shoots mid 200 grain bullets out of the barrel of a 20 gauge at 1900-2000 fps. That is not "weak" at all. I shoot the 12 gauge, but would now, due to the advancements in ammunition, choose to shoot the 20 gauge instead if I purchased a new rifle. Like I have recommended on many previous threads, I have had fantastic luck with the Winchester Platinum tip sabot rounds.

The posts above a dead on when it comes to the power of a 20ga. Personally i shoot remington buck hammers out of my gun. They are accurate, and hit hard.

A 20 gauge is definitely not "weak."

I have not usedmy slug gun very often but I have shot it enough to know it shoots the buck hammers very well, probably the best. It makes a big perfect round wadcutter hole onthe target.Mine is a 12 gauge, and sometimes I wish it were a 20 ga.The buck hammers are a very hot load.I call that gun and that load the beast.

20 ga is a great deer gun, especially with a rifled barrel. A 20 ga sabot slug has more energy remaining at 100 yds than a foster from a smoothbore 12ga. Much flatter trajectory and less kick too.

actually youre better off with a good 20 gauge than you are with a cheap 12. a good slug and a good rfled slug barell will knock a deer down out to 100 yards. I know. I started with a 20.
