What is the longest shot you would take at a legall big game animal ?

A hunter who is also a writer in a hunting mag, was asked by a judgewhat he considered to be an ethical shoot, he replyed 300 yards. Would you take a shot at a deer at 300 yards? Or perhaps some may even go beyond 300 yards. So please feel free to vote and let us see the out come.

I know there is alot to consider, like ability, confidence, and on and on, but in general...whats the longest shot you would take at a North American big game animal ( including deer).

With a firearm or bow.

my longest was 326 yards from a steady rest with a Wby .300 Mag. i know this topic is going to stir up a hornets nest from the "holier than thou" crowd....

It depends if I am shooting a bow or a rifle but neither would be too far.

The longest shot i have taken a deer from was just over 150 with a 243.
I would feel comfortable a little over 200 in good conditions

Longest shot for me on deer was 135-137 yards with a 1187 rifled barrel slug gun. I don't think I'dtry it any further. No centerfire rifle hunting for deer in Illinois.I don't see anything wrong with 300+ yard shots as long as your firearm is capable. Certainly not a slug gun though.

Longest shot about 45 yds. All others 15-25.

Depends, offhand maybe 150yds. On a steady rest, 350yds if the wind was right...

Totally depends on both the operator and the gun.

I hunt with a 20 guage slug, so for me upper end is 80yrds. A good shot with a 30-06 could probably do 400 yards on a windless day with a good rest.

I'd rather have someone who is a great shot attempting 400 yards than a horrible shot attempting 40.
