I'm not too sure you'll be able to save that rack. The ones I have seen haven't hardened yet and when they finally dry out they just crumble. I would suggest trying to save the rack with the velvet on. I know for caribou we just scraped the velvet off with a knife and peeled it away. If you want to try and save the velvet I'd drain the blood out first and then try and preserve it with something. I know they make chemicals just for preserving velvet but I've never used it.

I think freeze drying it is the best way to preserve it.

In my opinion the rackmay not be done developing yet, so I think you'd be better off leaving the velvet alone. I second the freeze drying.

i would set it out in the sun for a long time to dry. i have two bow kills from early season hunts and it takes a while for the blood inside to dry out.
not sure if it will come off then i just left mine on. but it gets looser as it drys
