Default Velvet hunt in SC

me and some buddies are going down to SC for 5 days starting Aug 15th to hunt bucks while they are hpofully still in velvet. As far as I know this is the only place to fair chase hunt velvet deer with a rifle (you can use a bow too).

Anyway we can have 10 in the logde and only have 5 going at this time. Northwoods Adventures TV from the Sportsman's channel will be there and trying to get as many hunts to tape as posible. the outfitter is getting 1,100 for 5 days with meals and lodging. If you bring 1 child and will hunt together, thier hunt and license are free. I have been there for 3 years and had a great time every year. You can pm me here or e mail me chriscobbett@hotmail.com . Its not my place ann I am not making any cake. Just trying to get a group togethere for when we are in camp.

Here is a little video from last year I thought you deer nuts might like.

Id love to take a buck in velvet but in Wi its legal to shoot a buck in velvet but its illegal to posess antlers with velvet intact. Not sur ewho made up that dumb rule I dont think it makes any difference as long as the buck was taken legally.

that video there is also great proof that deer are not scared by gun fire, they didnt run away after the shot. They simply are afraid of humans.

I would absolutely LOVE to tag a buck in velvet someday. Our Oct 1 opener here in IL keeps me well away from that dream. It sounds like I'm going to have to take a look at some velvet hunts available in other states in the future. The Youth hunt you mentioned above has me very interested. My Daughter would get a charge out of something like that, plus I have a son that should be old enough to hunt next season. Man, wouldn't that be an awesome summer vacation for them just before school starts back up ?!?

in KY alot ofbucks are in velvet for the start of bow season. but then again youd be hard pressed to find one in velvet two weeks after the opener.

season always opens the first saturday in September, i beleive. i do know it starts around the 3rd every year.

I like the deer in velvet, but the big plus for me was having my son there and letting him hunt too. He was able to take 3 deer last year in SC when he was 6 including a nice little buck.
