I don't reload so maybe lead shot for reloading shotgun shells still come in cotton bags. Anyhow, ever see one of those hung in a tree filled with plain ole rock salt? When it rains the ground get soaked with saltwater. I've seen holes in the ground where you could bury afridge from the deer licking the ground under the bag.

Mineral licks are used by bucks for antler growth and are a great place for trail cameras.

Probably because baiting is illegal. A mineral lick is not considered baiting.

Mineral licks are illegal in IA to hunt over. People put them on their land to help provide nutrients for deer and to help with antler developent. I attended a Buckeye cam trail camera seminar and the host said that his favorite place to put trail cameras was on mineral licks. He stated that bucks will hit them regularly throughout antler develpment.
