11,845 deer to a program that feeds needy people across the state. More than
4,600 more than last year, WDNR reported.
This new record - eclipsing the 10,939 donated two years ago - reflects the "tremendous efforts" of thousands of deer hunters who killed extra deer to help feed hungry people and reduce the deer herd, said Laurie Fike, the DNR's coordinator of the program.
"Our hats are off to these caring hunters," she said.
Going into fall, the DNR estimated 1.5 to 1.7 million deer roamed Wisconsin.
