WI deer hunters stepped up to the plate....

.....and filled it with some fresh venison! Congrats to you if you are one of the hunters who donated a record 11,845 deer to a program that feeds needy people across the state. More than 4,600 more than last year, WDNR reported.

This new record - eclipsing the 10,939 donated two years ago - reflects the "tremendous efforts" of thousands of deer hunters who killed extra deer to help feed hungry people and reduce the deer herd, said Laurie Fike, the DNR's coordinator of the program.

"Our hats are off to these caring hunters," she said.

Going into fall, the DNR estimated 1.5 to 1.7 million deer roamed Wisconsin.

Record Bear meat was served last Sunday in Miami.


Yes we are very proud of this here in Wi. I donated 2 does in 05.

I didn't donate any this because I really wanted some meat for the frezzer. I'm going to make it a priorty to donate some next year. Good job fellow Wisconsinites. Rock on der eh!
