Whitetail Deer HuntingGain a better understanding of the World's most popular big game animal and the techniques that will help you become a better deer hunter.
Has any one here ACTUALLY lost their right to hunt because of this group?
I have never seen, in my 30 years of hunting in IA, that peta/hsus/antis has had any impact in my life. Fears that are planted in our hunters' heads from magazines, speakers at hunting events, and propaganda. One hunter says,"Beware, peta is going to get us. It is a chain reaction of fear. They have no clout with the lawmakers as they have nothing financially or beneficial to contribute to the economy. Pork consumption has not gone down due to a pie in a pork queens face or films showing pigs killed at a slaughter house. As stated by our state DNR on their website, "Hunting is the only viable way to keep animal populations in check."
Feel free to have your opinion though. It is a free country afterall, and good hunting to you
haven't effected me. I think the number of hunters far outnumbers the number of anti-hunters/peta members.
Im at college, among one of the most liberal demographics in america, and there are a few, but the nubmer that don't care far outnumbers those that would try to stop me or tell me its wrong. So far i think only 2-3 have expressed how its cruel or whatever.
come to MD, they have had an impact here. Its not so much the churches keeping sunday hunting away, but people say that birdwatchers need a day to feel safe in the woods. Whatever. Just because it doesn't affect you now, doesn't mean it won't later.
i haven't had any problems. i've come across many ppl who are anti-hunting and most them eat meat. so they really have no argument whatsoever.
i think peta and the anti's will have an impact on us only if there is some kind of massive vegetarian/vegan movement that a great deal of ppl in the country join. i really can't see that happening though being that humans are omnivores. those canines we have aren't for tearing lettuce.
but then again look what happened in England. didn't they ban fox hunting?

In Michigan a few years back, a referendum was put on the ballot to attempt to stop the use of dogs in bear hunting. Even though PETA was not responsible for initiating that referendum, they stood behind it and lobbied hard for its approval by voters of our state. I am happy to report that the referendum was soundly defeated by the people of Michigan who saw this as a first attempt by an anti-hunting group to take away a small portion of our hunting rights. Even people in our inner cities realized the importance of hunting to our state. They realized for example that an unchecked bear population could lead to problems with bears in conflict with people (especially children) and this could become a common event. And the people knew that if successful, the anti groups would go after more hunting rights and that deer would not be far out of their sites (no pun intended..haha). Attempting to prohibit deer hunting in our state by any group would not be successful in our state.....at least in the near future. The insurance industry, agriclutural community and their organizations and lobbiest along with most of the voting public would crush any attempt in this decade.
However, having said all this, the people of Michigan recently voted down a law that would allow controlled dove hunting. Although this did not seem to be a victory for the anti's because they didn't really campaign against it, it is still a blow to the hunting community even though most current hunters don't care to hunt doves in the first place. The defeat became more of a social issue with doves at the bird feeders around our homes and how could we kill this precious resource that stands for peace in our nation. But, we await the next test and hope our citizens still have the courage to stand up for hunting rights. We are a dwindling community as our population ages I fear!
Don't fool yourself into complaciency! These groups have influenced some state laws closing seasons on different animals. Most importantly, their lack of major success, is NOT due to lack of funding or lack of effort! Their failures are directly related to groups like the NRA and other gun/hunting organizations! Please DO NOT take our freedoms and rights for granted, there are many who would gladly take them away from us! Call this "paranoia" if you will, I am sure there were some who said that Patrick Henry was paranoid when he said :the British are comming!
BTW, we can probably expect a couple of quiet years, but if Hillary becomes President again, look for an all-out attack on the Second Amendment again! Especially if she has the backing of a majority in Congress!

PETA would have a hard time getting anything done in Oklahoma. Nearly everyone either fishes, hunts, eats meat, has pets, is involved in rodeo or agriculture. Most people who don't hunt would like to see more deer killed because of deer/auto accidents.
