Default hunting ammo

I believe most of us know to hunt with thesame ammo that you sighted your gun in with. I've seen a guy load different brands, say aRemington slug with2 Winchesters slugs and have even seenhim mix a foster slug with sabots. Not me I hunt with what I sight my gun in with. But, how many of you look on the flap of the ammo box like I do and buy all boxes with the same "lot" number. I usually by 30 boxes of slugs at a time searching through the shelf for matched boxes. I had a friend of mine tell me that when they shut down the line at factories for any reason they change lot numbers and the bullets or slugs may not be the same. Granted he does alot of target shooting.Does anyone else do this. I also helped a new hunter sight in his slug gun. After setting it up with Remington Sluggers he showed me the BRI's he was going to hunt with. Didn't take me long to show him the difference it would make. Your thoughts?

I take accuracy pretty seriously so I just stick with what I zero in with, and what I zero in with is determined by what ammo gives me the best groupings. For my 700 I've found that Federal Fusion works best, and I always found it has great effects on deer.

I usually but two or three boxes at a time when buying, but don't check the lot number. Where exactly is it located?

On my Remington and Winchester slugs I find the lot number on the flap of the box facing you as you open it. I hope I explained that good enough. Not sure on any rilfle load boxes. I don't really worry about lot numbers on my shotshells forbird hunting....Just FYI anyone wondering why I talk about using the same ammo and you see I buy both Rems and Winchesters slugs, my 1187 is dialed in with the Remingtons and my 870 likes the Winchesters better.

I buy bullets with the same lot # on them, or I'll shoot a couple from a new box just to make sure that they are shooting the same!
