Yes, sadly she will surely die. Do not ever shoot a deer with a .204 Ruger except at close range with a shot to the neck.

Is it even legal to shoot deer with a .204? What did your buddies doe do? Where do you think you hit this deer since it doesn't sound like a shoulder shot? Need more info.[:@]

Why would anyone attempt something so dumb is beyond me. Will she die? Maybe, depends on your winters, and if she can fight off an infection. I shoot groundhogs iwth a 204, and it rarely penetrates a groundhog. Its a varmint round. Even if you hit in the ribs, I doubt it penetrated more than one lung. The most likely scenero, is she will live a week, and die slowly. If you hit her in the shoulder, she has a fighting chance at living.

No, I wouldn't in the heat of the moment shot that deer with a 204. Obviously it was dumb, cause you don't have a deer now, and its off wounded somewhere cause you didn't have adult supervision, which was obviously needed in this situation.

I dont know much about rifles so I wont comment on what you shot her with. Its possible you grazed her spine with your shot.I killed one a few years ago that had a bullet hole in her, it had caught the top of the spine, sent bone fragents everywhere and was infected but she was still up and running.Im sure whoever shot her to start with probably saw much the same thing you just described when they hit her.
