My first year of serious long range deer hunting is over
Well its been tough, trying to find a place to take a buck at beyond 500 yds is hard, heck finding one in the scope is hard. In all my years of hunting I have never been so mentaly burnt out, watching and waiting for the good shot, having some good bucks just walk out of sight, never stopping, or not giving the right angle. well got 3 deer this season, a doe at 375 yds, a 6 pt at 450, and an 8 point at 475.

ok, the last day of antlerless season, we went bear hunting, tree'd a nice 200 pounder for an 11 yo boy, during the after the hunt celebration/weigh in. The landowner noticed a doe in the field up against the moutain. I asked if he minded if I shot her, he said be my guest.
I unpacked the big 7 and got set up, ranged the doe at 584 yds. made my adjustments, and settled behind the rifle, I heard the landowner say something about just as safe as in the arms of jesus.
When the big 7mm Allen mag barked, the doe never took a step, just went down hard!

Also, let me get this straight, you purposely try to find a place to hunt where you will get 500 + yard shots? What, a 200 yard shot not challenging enough for you? Don't let the guy who condemed everyone for taking a shot over 100 yards see this post. He will brand you.

I'm confused as to why you are "trying find a place to take a buck out past 500 yards". I'm not knocking your hunting, just confused.
By the way, nice deer, and beautiful gun.

not complaining at all just passing along how it went
Yes, I purposely shoot at deer at 500+ yards, why? Well I spent the whole year working on my ammo, rifle, and shooting ability, I am confidant in a moderate wind that I can hit a 4" circle about every shot to 700 yds. since I'm about deaf its one way that I am on equal footing with the quarry.
Let him flame away, but it was ok when the compound bow effectively more than doubled the bohunters range, and the scopedinline sabot loaded modern blackpowder rifle more than effectively doubled the range of blackpowder hunters.
Now thata properly set-up and built rifle can ethicly extend the range of centerfire big game hunters (by a very wide margin I might add) there are gonna be some who say "thats cheatin"
I know my limitations and stay within them, isn't that whats the most important part of ethics?

Oh and yes its a LH stock by richards microfit, a 2.5" varminter thumbhole, thanks for the compliments on the rifle
