Default 2006 Hunt Camp Trip (pics)

Well my annual trip to the camp didn't necessarily start out the best I guess you could say. I was supposed to bowhunt for 3 days before the rifle opener but work issues kept me home and I arrived with only 1 1/2 days to bowhunt. I rushed out and didn't check the crossbow sight whihc had been bumped obviously. First afternoon a nice mature 8 point ran the button buck out of the feild that had been feeding under my stand. 2 grunts had him 30 yds broadside and shot right under him. Confrimed with a target it was off 1 foot whihc is what I missed him by.

With 30 mins left in the bowhunt I got my parents the venison I promised them with this mature doe. She and 3 others and 2 fawns had been in front of me for about 45 mins with me waiting for that 8 pointer, or another big fella, to show up again.

It was a wet week in Eastern Ontario and the swamp I hunt was tough to get into. The pole got some meat on it with a small 6 on wed and nice 7pt on thurs.

A look at the width and mass in these pics

By the way. I know there is lots of posts on finding deer after hits, or wondering wether they were hit. The big buck had a hole right through the center of his heart. He ran 300 yds however without a drop of blodd to be found at the original site. A hound followed the trail and circled a very thick patch of brush in a swampy area over and over. Inside that thick brush, where eyes would never see, was the big buck.
