Whitetail Deer HuntingGain a better understanding of the World's most popular big game animal and the techniques that will help you become a better deer hunter.
Well after about 5 years of white-tail huntingwith many blown opportunities on large deer, I've finally scored my first buck. I was extremely lucky because an hour before I shot this guy, I missed a monster 12-point that trotted 30 yards by me due to a combination of heavy cover, buck fever and just plain bad luck. After stewing in my juices on my stand after another blown opportunity, I saw a doe run by in the valley below me who was clearly in heat with a little fork buck in pursuit. They left the valley soon after and went out of sight. 10 minutes later, this 8 point comes screaming in the valley with his nose down on her trail. I let out a doe grunt that stopped him in his tracks, took aim on his vitals and let my .270 rip. He walked about 20 feet and collapsed I've got him caped out in my chest freezer and am taking him to the taxidermist next week. What a feeling !!!!! He is a concilation prize compared to the12-point I missed (3 times)but a prize none the less!

Nice buck! You guys score so well on your first one it will be harder next time. Congrats. MV out!
In the MO county I hunt in (Macon), there is a antler restriction rule that , IMO, is a great thing and is making all bucks taken in this county fairly good size.
