Foster slugs thru rifled barrel question

I recently read that by shooting foster type slugs throught a rifled barrel will evenually lead to the rifling filling with lead and you will have a smooth bore barrel that is even less accurate than a regular smooth bore. I've never heard this till now. Any truth to this???? Thanks, Scott Woody

bubba i dont know about them slugs but that fosters beer will definately make you less accurate

Foster style slugs are rifled and should only be used in smoothbore shotguns . Rifled slug barrels are designed to fire sabot slugs .

You would have to fire a LOT of rounds to completely fill the grooves in a rifled barrel. Accuracy can fall off fairly quickly though when shooting rifled slugs in a rifled barrel.

Will it hurt it? No, not if you clean it when you are done. Many people shoot rifled slugs in rifled barrels, as a matter of fact that is what they used before sabots became so popular.

It is much the same thing as shooting a conical bullet out of a muzzle loader or lead bullets out of a pistol or rifle.
