Just wanted to hear some thoughts/opinions on how air temperature affects scent.
Ex: Warmer air would seem to be thicker, and thus not let scent travel as good. VS. cooler air (thinner) letting it travel much more efficiently. So iwould think it would slow sent down some .
Any thoughts? Or is my imagination just running wild today? [&:]
ML comes in Sat. and it has heated up right smart. (lower 70s) I'm gonna be in there from sun up to sun down. [8D] Will be my 1st ML hunt. I'm pumped!
Actually cooler air is more dense so this air is thicker in a sence. Don't you notice that smelly things always smell worse in the summer . Like garbage and such. At least thats how I see it.
I agree with trac209, everything seems to smell wors when its warmer out to me.

If there is NO WIND (like lab conditions - probably not your stand), then scent travels more quickly in warm air simply because the molecules that make up air are moving faster on average. Scent in cool air spreads more slowly since the molecules, on average, are moving more slowly.
Cold air is more dense than warm air, but this doesn't have a whole lot to do with why scent spreads at a certain rate.
Of course, any kind of wind will dramatically (and directionally) speed up the dispersal of scent.
