i was wandering if i could use a deer call during the opening of bow season

i don't use anything during the early season. If you figure the deer in my area havent been hunted for months they are quite easy going now. If they hear something un natural or see a hunter they will become more scitish than ever. I let the deer go as long as I can without alarming them. Last year during the first weekend of bow season I came across a doe in the middle of a field she sat there and looked at me and she walked up to within 35 yards of me, try doing that in november and your screwed. good luck

September is awful early for agressive calling. A soft bleat if one is walking away might be worth a try just to see if you can get their curiosity going, but they won't be ready to rumble and come crashing in. September is all about hunting the food sources as that is their only drive then.

You can definitely use soft grunts and light sparring. Be sure to not over-do it though.

I've had doe even come in to the can bleat call during October. Grunts will also work. I think deer are curios by nature and just want to see what other deer is in the area.

i've always thought that a fawn distress was a good thing to use in the early season. especially for does and bucks will often come in just out of curiousity.

October is better for grunt calls. The Fawn In Distress Call is a very good one when hunting Does in September or anytime of the season.
