Will I get busted?

Here's the setup. I just got permission to hunt this thicket in the smack-dab center of a mile section. There are NO fencerows, drives, ANYTHING to get to it besides just corn fields. If I just walk in and keep the wind in my favor, would I still get busted as it's so open? This thicket is probably 10 acres or so. Rather long and narrow.

I've seen deer there about each evening. I've seen a MONSTER close to it and another MONSTER within 1/4 mile. My and my son's mouths are watering to get into this place.....[8D]

What's my best approach?

I would throw on some scent mask and approach with the wind in your face. You could also try draging an old sock attached to your boot with a stringloaded with buck urine or doe estrous. Works especially well during the rut. And just be as quiet as you can. Good luck!

ditto with BJR. Work the wind and if the thicket is the only cover your deer will be living there. If you are gun hunting a pop up blind set a little ways away might be the ticket.

Even if you walk in from downwind, some deer will bust you just by seeing you approach. If they are used to having farmers drivepickups or tractors in the fields, maybe you could have someone drive you to the edge of the thicket. If you quickly get out and into the brush, it shouldn't freak them out. However you decide to go in there, I would try to do it pretty early before they're all bedded in there.

Now we just got 2 inches of snow and it's supposed to get really cold. [:@]

Oh well, if we don't get in there this weekend, I'll have to get my blind in there and ready for smoke-pole season!!
