Default Using Grunt Calls

I am looking for your input on how you use grunt calls.

When, how often, how loud, etc..??

Also, anyone have a good resource for what a good grunt sounds like, in an actual hunting environment??

I have a Hunter's Specialties QuadGrunter Plus Deer Call, a Primos Great Big Can, and a Rattle Bag.

I just don't seem to be putting things together properly...

Thanks!

Grunt calls are about the only thing on the market that actually work. I would not go in the woods without one. I grunt about every 15-30 minutes when not seeing deer. They are mostly used and effective if you see abuck that you want to come in closer to your location. I use the True Talker from Hunters Spec. They all basically work well. You dont have tosound perfect just practice. One thing is you dont want to be too loud or too deep to sound like a very mature deer as that might scare off smaller bucks. The only time a grunt call may not beeffective is when a buck is on a hot doe. Whatever you do,a buck will not leave a hot doe. I have grunted in many bucks, they work great.

You have the setup, what i do is hit the bleat call, then the grunt, and then rattle. i do this to simulate a hot doe, and a buck chasing her, and then two fighting it out. I've called in a few like this.

i did a series of bleats immediately followed by some soft tending grunts in bow season this year and called in a 6. but i also learned that when calling look everywhere, if a deer pinpoints the sound and sees you the game is over dude. good luck and happy hunting.
