Lungbuster,

I haven't tried any deer scents yet. Last year was my 1st year using any scent blocker-soap, shampoo, deodorant, waffers, spray, kept everything in scent lock bags. Not one deer I saw winded me. However in the years before that, I had only a few deer appear to be winding me, wasn't enough to make them bolt though. No telling what was going on with deer I couldn't see. In both scenarios I've had deer get within 10 ft of me and not smell me, and usually there's a good breez in kansas. I think until a deer winds me while I'm using scent blocker - I'll continue to use it.

While I don't believe in scent suits, I do believe in attractant/cover scents. I had a nice eight point last year skirting the bush, and some aggressive grunting brought him in gun range. The Tink's 69 I had up about 15 yards away I think closed the deal and got him in bow range. When I shot him he was headed directly for it.

Lung, deer will spot the UV enhanced dyes in your clothing before
they wind you.

1. Do not wash your hunting clothes or caps in commercial soaps. They
are UV enhanced to make you think they are whiter, it's the UV enhancers
they add to thier soaps.

2. Wash your hunting clothes and caps with the hunting soaps that are sold
by different scent companys.

3. When you have washed them in this product, put them in a clean tub or
bucket with cold water and 2 boxes of Bicarbonate of Soda for a few hours.

4. Pull them out and let them Drip Dry. This will serve as a Scent Blocker and
alot cheaper.Doing this to a couple of Cover Alls to wear over your clothing,
will help you cover most of your scents. When you come back to camp, pull
them off and put them in a plastic bag.

5. Don't wear the boots you are going to hunt with untill you are ready and remove
them when you return to camp.

6. Use an unscented under arm deoterant like Unscented Secret. In the Cold weather
if you rub it on your feet, it will keep them from sweating and your feet won't
get cold.

7. Try to use a Bicarbonate based Tooth Paste. The sweet smell of the regulars will
carry in the wind for miles.

BO is caused from the gases produced by the bacteria on your Hair and Body.
They also sell uncented bath soap. It is amust that you keep clean while hunting
for an extended period of days.

All good advice Rebel Hog! Only thing I would add is to get a small bottle of scent killer to spray your boots before you walk to your stand. Also, I gather branchs from different trees (pine, cedar, etc...) and store my hunting clothes in a sealable plastic tub with those branches between the layers.

GRIZZLY, good point also. That's why I mentioned not to wear your boots
or shoes untill you are ready to go in the woods.
When you leave the house and stop to gas-up at a station, you are stepping
in an area that has or has had spilled gas on it. Then you go to the rest room
and step on a floor which has or has had urine all over on it.
Another thing I should mentioned is, never urineate around your stand. An
animal can scent this a mile away.
Using unscented rubber boots like La Crosse is also very helpful to cover
many scents to and from your stand.

Yea Grizz, here in FL there are so many Pine trees in the woods that I use
pieces of Lighter Pine to roll-up in my Cover Alls when I place them in the
bag. I also have used Siberian Pine Oil on them.

I wash all my stuff in baking soda, double rinse and drip dry outside. I go out and cut some small cedar branches and put in large construction bag (El Cheapo natural scent). That's where all my outer garments stay after the hunt. I might freshin up the cedar 1/2 way thru season.

Last year I lined 2 deer stands with cedar branches. A great natural cover for hunter movement and you could smell the cedar as you approached stand (El Cheapo scent control). I saw more bucks outa of a 12' tower stand lined with cedar than any other on farm!!

I almost always carry some apples in pocket(only McIntosh, great scent). Before I walk to stand I lay 1-2 on ground and smash, rub into boots. The remainder I cut in 1/2 rub on tree bark, spike on branch,or toss on ground. I've had many deer and every other critter in woods follow apple scent to stand.

As far as soap I use Ivory(El Cheapo) or on rare occasion buy the bottled soap stuff.

The money I save I spend on other stupid hunting toys

Another good cheap cover scent is watered down Pinesol. Water it down about 5 parts water to 1 part Pinesol. Works real well when in pine thickets.

Yup! It works great Cutter!
Another cover scent is, if you aregoing to hunt an area that has recently been
burnt-off, sit around the camp fire and smoke-up your hunting clothes.

Pinesol - very interesting. Might try that one.

I've also used pure Vannila. Hang 2-3 wicked bottles around stand and watch the deer walk out of woods and wind it. Pure Vanila can get a little pricey.

Another trick;
About 2-3 weeks before season rake out leaves down to bare earth around stand and path to stand and then leave the area. Don't go back until opening day and smell the fresh earth.

Covers all human scent that might be lingering from your deer stand work. Some labor involved but its - El Cheapo - Free unless you break the rake!

More money saved to spend on stupid huntin stuff!
