Default new to colorado

So I'm new to Colorado(just got stationed at Carson) originally from Idaho, i know I'm here late in the season. Just asking for some advice on a third rifle GMU for elk, anything is appreciated just looking to fill the freezer this year.

Thank You

The silence is deafening. Try 55 or 551. Also 86, 82, 681. All are otc bull units. Lemme know how you make out.

I hunted the 82, 86 and 861 areas east and south of mosca pass starting near the radar site parking area. Great looking country.

511 cleared out right after muzzle season. the area is dead unless you go way deep in the valleys.

I hunted 3rd season Elk in 511 this year (just got stationed at USAFA over the summer). Saw a nice mule deer and an absolute ton of other hunters. An elk wouldn't have been able to walk a mile without getting shot at five times.

RMG? can you tell me how to get on to ft carson? I am old AF so don't really have a card anymore. not retired or anything(just VA card). I bet you need more paperwork if your out of the military and want to bring a gun onto base.

Default Ft. CARSON

Just have id, i have not tried to get on post since 2011. Used to be drivers license then go to mp building with all gun info fill out the form and your set.Today you might want to call the military police and ask. I'd also ask If you can go to the down range building and get the unit map. DOW also used to have an office on post they can also help you. They used to assign several hunters to a unit and you used to be able to go in from Turkey creek avoiding the gates and most of the post, you would be down range already. Being a vet used to put you second in line so that's good. Just be ready for the red tape Dow on post can explain it.
