Default Ntl Forest Shooting CO

Question for some of the natives here to Colorado. Recently moved out to the brighton/thornton area off hwy 7 and was informed in Colorado you can shoot in the National Forests as long as you use common sence (150 yards from camp sites, people, houses, roads etc..) But am not sure what national forest would be closest to my location for taking out my 30-06 and new .17 HMR to do some plinking. Im right off I-25 and Hwy 7 so if someone could fill me in where to head out to i would greatly appreciate it. I have an itch to shoot my new HMR but the closest range to me is Cherry Creeks family shooting center and i just dont have the time for the drive and the crowd.
