RE: Area 461Colorado
Hello midwest outdoorsman. I live here in CO and I'm going out for a muzzloading hunt just below 461.
I don't have much info, but here is what I can tell you. There just isn't much info available. Good luck on your hunt.
Land Status: Ninety-nine percent private. Some of the upper Waterton Canyon is USFS and can be hunted. Small piece of BLM land of limited suitability for hunting in the southeast corner of the area. The state land in Unit 461 is not open to hunting. Recreational use in this area is high, thus, hunters should make every effort to avoid conflict with non-hunters.
Weather: Generally warm days and cool nights in the summer and early fall. Always be prepared for sudden severe weather. FYI January will be cold and snowy so be prepared for that.
Elk: Private lands in western two-thirds of unit. Unit 461 is totally limited for elk license.
With so much private land in this area, it is essential to know private boundaries (Pike National Forest map) and obtain permission from the landowner.
