Default Teal hunting

What is the better choice for teal hunting on public land? A small spread of mallard decoys or a larger spread of 35 decoys and my mojo mallard. Im wondering if they will shy away from 3 dozen or more mallard decoys. Mallard is all i have and i dont feel like buying any more right now. Thanks

I use 6 mallard decoys and 8 teal decoys . The mallard decoys draw them in and the teal decoys hook them . I use all drake mallard , they stand out better. 4 blue wing and 4 green wing decoys set up on either side of the mallard decoys . I would use just 6 - 10 drake decoys .Teal like shallow water ,allmost mud flats . Don't expect the teal to land , I take them on the 2 pass . I love hunting featherd mosquitoes ,IMO best eating duck .

I use between 4 and 6 mallards placed about 10-15 feet offshore and in no specific order. Just kinda thrown out there. Then about 9 teal dekes in a pretty tight group ranging from just offshore to about 5 feet. Inbetween the two groups but closer to the teal I spread out the other three.

Shot on the second pass like Johnch said.

We used a comination of mallard and teal decoys about 6 of each and a spinning wing, placed in random this morning. We limited out in 7 min.

Get under their flight path and it wont matter how many decoys you have. But use some I seldom use more than 8 teal decoys but I make sure they are in the open pockets of water.

Like they said, just throw out a handful of dekes and you should do alright if they are flying nearby. I usually throw a few mallards, woodies, and teal dekes out and do great.
