Default help getting started

i' m just getting started waterfowl hunting. i' ve done it a coule times with friends would like to learn for myself how to do it. i have a gun some calls what are some things i need. and how do i go about finding place to hunt and knowing how to look for things i need to know.

First off, welcome to the board! If I were you, I would find a good hunting buddy, and start looking around for public land that is open to hunters. Call your wildlife office. Then, see if you can meet some people that might have connections to private land, and go from there. Maybe offer to do some work for a farmer in exchange for hunting privileges. Then, get some warm clothes, and you are set in my book!

I think the best way to go about finding a hunting place is...SCOUT!! Find out where the birds are going. If you have a wildlife refuge near you, it might help. I hunt a marsh very near to a refuge, and if birds are determined not to land anywhere but in the refuge, i still get a few shots at birds going in and out of the refuge. Thats really all i have to say, good luck!!

have you tried the Navesink and Shrewsbury river they are opened to waterfowlers again and also the states green acres? all public land. you can e-mail the state for a complete map of these areas, mailto:WMAMAPS@dep.state.nj.us
