Default Mojo duck kit

I recently purchased a do it yourself kit for a mojo duck and wondered if anyone else has done one of these kits before. I know alot of people don' t like the motorized decoys, but where i hunt everyone else has them, so if you don;t have one you are out of luck. As for others who think that peopel are getting too many ducks now, we still can' t shoot over the limit, we just get it sooner and with less cripples because the ducks come in closer.

So anyways has anyone ever made one of the do it yourself kits before?

i' m also incorporating an electrical modulator within the system.

Do you have any pics of the assembly? Do you cut a hole in the back of the decoy or what are you doing? I have the same kit coming and my friend is going to design and make me one of those modulators for like $5 or so. I guess they are really simple to make. He is an electrical engineer major. I got mine through macs with a battery included for $40 and we have tons of dekes to use. I just want to see how you did yours and see if you have any reccomendations.

give me a day and i' ll post up a picture.

i used a standard flambeau mallard for mine.

as far as cutting the back, mine is cut just behind the legs across the bottom, up both sides, and i left a piece of the original plastic on the top/middle to hold the back portion on. the directions don' t say which way to cut it, but i figure with gravity the tail portion will always be in the down position.

i had to cut a big square hole on the bottom to put in the motor and the mounting bolts. the female shafts didn' t fit onto either end of the motor, so i had to enlarge them ever so slightly with a dremel tool.

your friend could probably make some money on ebay by selling the modulators. i bought mine on there for $25, he could charge $15.

We put 1 together last year. They dont look as nice as the ones that you buy,, but they work!

The one we have runs on a 6 volt battery, If you can get a recharble one your much better off,, weve easily spent the difference on batteries that a top-of-line recharbable spinner would of cost.

definitely get a rechargeable battery. i got one for around 10 bucks from academy sports, a charger (6 & 12 volt) with little alligator clips was about 12 bucks. the single use alkaline batteries are about 4-6 bucks, they do last longer but just do some math and you come out ahead by using the rechargeables.

You have any pics yet? My kit just came in and i don;t know where to start. Where did you cut you hole? I was thinking cutting into the back and leaving like a flap but then will there be a problem with the flap breaking off after you open and close it alot? How are you mounting yours? are you using the conduit as a stake or do you have somethign else planned? I want to make mine as compact as possible, and on a floating stand about 10 inches above the water. With cutting a hole in the top is there any worry about water getting on the instide and messing with everything?

After a day of thought and talking with my friend we cam up with a plan to get the mojo flowing. I still plan on mounting it 10 inches above the water, and i will use 2 decoys to make it. The first decoy i am going to cut the head and a decent amount of the back off and then use the other other decoy to cut out the same section, but a litttle larger to have some overlap to keep most water out. It will be attached to the front of the deke wiht a hinge and some type of latch on the back. I am not going to mount the motor from the top of the decoy, but make a stand to hold it up from the bottom of the decoy at the right height.

We also came up with a schematic for a timing device which will cost about $10 to make that will have independently adjustable on/off times. Which took forever to make a design that had the on and off time periods completely independent. the easier designs we cam up with made it so the 2 knobs that adjust the timing would effect each other. (increase in 1 increased both while increasing or decreasing the other didn' t effect it) I hope it works.

We are going to make the timer this next week and if it works good I could post up the layout of the circuit if anyone is interested. It does involve making a circuit using 2 555 timers so if you don' t know what i am talking about then i don' t think you will be able to make one yourself.
