Default Wood duck calls

Last year I bought one of those 8 dollar "7 in 1" duck call whistles mostly because I knew there were gonna be wood ducks where I was hunting. While it is a good call and did bring in some woodies I feel like there must be a better one out there. Any opinions or experiences with them?

I am not sure you can call in a woodie, but I have two of these woodduck calls just cause they sound and look cool..

It's been my experience that wood ducks don't really respond well to calls. They pretty much ignore them. The do respond to mallard decoys, as they sometimes fly by for a closer look and sometimes land.

Yeah they dont respond to calls much at all, just get some decoys and go to the exact spot where they want to be an you will be fine...pretty much just like any other duck I guess. Haha

Wow-woodies up by me respond to calls very well...I use Buck Gardner's Wood Duck Call (Not the whistle but the actual call) and it works awesomely! It's also great for getting those late season smart greenheads to commit, adds a lot of realism...I don't know if it matters or not but I do put 3 or 4 woody decoys in my spread too

I use a Haydel's wood duck call. I don't have a ton of success getting them to come to call unless they are on the water. We will routinely let em' sit down and then call to them. Get them close enough and flush em'.

I find woodies don't fly into the call well, but like said before you can call them in once they've landed. I like to call them into 10-15 yards and shoot them in the head just like a big tom turkey.
