Default Cold weather film?

I just tried to film a hunt in about 15 degree weather with my girlfriends video camera that she got for Christmas and the tape has all types of problems with it. I think the camera may have received permanent damage which she is pissed about. Has anybody tried to film in extremely cold weather and had any problems with their video cameras? Is there any sort of fix for this? any suggestions would help as I am in the doghouse until I can fix or replace the Christmas present
